This is one of the statues guarding one of the graves on the old cemetery near our new apartment. The graveyard is no longer in use (meaning that it doesn't have any new burials and most of the graves on it go back to 19th century). In the summer people are taking a walk in the shadow of the high trees, taking a nap in the sunlight on one of the benches or playing with the kids between the graves.
And so somehow this graveyard seems to be very alive.

  • What does it mean for a graveyard to no longer be in use?
